The AutoPrice™ plugin to Adobe InDesign™ provides
sophisticated linking of InDesign documents to any external database of information.
As the name implies, AutoPrice is great for performing pricing updates on catalogs,
retail flyers and similar publications, but is also perfect for updating phone
lists, time tables, or any other type of information that can be referenced by
a "key value" such as product number (SKU).
Establish Links
to Your Database
AutoPrice works by letting the user establish "placeholders" within
new or existing InDesign documents which are linked to a database record.
To assign a placeholder, highlight the text that you wish to link to your database
and specify a unique identifier (part #, SKU) which is used to locate a particular
database record. For products which have different price breaks, AutoPrice lets
you specify additional search criteria for differentiating between the variations.

Unlike other software products which require that you link to a specific text
box, it lets you link to any range of text anywhere in a document. This means
that you do not have to restructure your layout to accommodate the links, making
design and editing easy to manage.
Each placeholder appears as a blue underscore which floats
with your text as you make changes. Placeholders can be edited and styled like
normal text and once assigned, they are saved with the document so future updates
are a breeze.
To update a document, select Update Document... from under the AutoPrice menu.
The latest information will be extracted from your database and inserted automatically.
Special Price Styling
Features
The price styling capabilities of AutoPrice allow you to automatically style
incoming prices in virtually any fashion. And the search criteria feature can
easily handle special price stratifications, such as quantity pricing.
ODBC Support
Documents can be updated in flat-file, or ODBC mode. The ODBC XTensions module
allows users to program their own SQL queries and store them with placeholders
inside of the InDesign documents. This XTensions module is compatible with
most major database packages, and provides true bi-directional data flow between
InDesign documents and your database system.
Report Generation
and Data Export
AutoPrice provides a built-in report generator capable of generating reports
which include a comprehensive list of every item that was updated, its current
value, page number, missing items, error codes, and much more. This information
is ideal for proofing purposes, index generation, or you may simply wish to
merge the data back into your database or spreadsheet program. For database
population, our AutoPrice Exporter Pro module provides even further exporting
capabilities by allowing you to extract and format InDesign content into
flat-file tables that can be uploaded into virtually any web or e-commerce database.
Includes Batch
Processing Feature
For larger publications that are stored as separate InDesign documents, AutoPrice
provides a comprehensive batch processing feature. This is genuine, built-in
batch processing, which means it's fast, reliable, and incredibly easy to use.
Just select the jobs you want to update, choose your database and reporting
options, and go! It will process the entire batch of jobs and give you a full
report when it's finished. And with our Batch Print™ XTensions module,
you have the option of printing the pages when you're done.
Comprehensive
Picture Support
In addition to prices and other textual information, AutoPrice also supports
pictures! Just click on a picture box, type in your SKU, and click OK. When
you update the document, it will search your database, locate the picture and
automatically import the pictures into perfect position. For missing pictures,
AutoPrice offers advanced searching capabilities and error reporting.
